Avast 6 and The PDF File Transfering

I’m not really sure this problem is caused by avast, i’ve test several computers and always got the same results.

Environment: Win7 64, avast free 6.01
Problem: When i try to copy a large pdf file to a usb storage media (not include usb harddisk, problem arise for cards and u disks), the copying progress bar would pause at some point and remains for a long time with a speed of zero (sometimes several minutes), actually the new copy is already created completely. When i disable avast shields, this phenomenon disappear. And this only happened for pdf file and usb storage.

Use “Process Monitor” i found that in such cases, the operation of the “IRP_MJ_CLEANUP” consume an unusually longer time.

Could anyone tell me how could such thing happened? Any advice will be appreciated.

What is “large” in this context?

I’ld like to test that on my system, so how many MBs are necessary to bring up this problem?

about 20M and the pause would be obvious.

Don’t know if I can arrange the test today, but I will tomorrow at the latest.
Thx for the additional info.

Confirmed.
Takes a very long pause at the very end of the copying process.

That’s it! Thanks.

Well, I hope that some mod will take a look at this thread and see deeper into the problem.
There seem to be some issues with scanning of pdfs.

One of the mods is active in this thread http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=75020.0, so I notified about your findings with process-monitor.

So, I added “K:*.pdf” to the file system shield exclusion list for writing operations, with K: being the drive-letter assigned to usb-sticks.
This solves the problem, however the pdfs will not be scanned any more when writing on the stick.

Hope they are looking into this thing…

Seems to be the only way for now. Fortunately this problem did not bring too much inconvenience.
I notice that the virus definition version 110401-2 solves another issue with pdf files, but this one remains. I hope this bug could be fixed in some day.

Bump!

Has this bug been worked on?

Isn’t this solved already…??
Please test…!!

No, don’t mix this one with the slow boot-time scanning of pdf - that is solved, yes.

Ah, ok - my mistake.

PCHA bump ;D

Still unsolved?

Will be fixed soon.

Thanks!

Adressed in the new pre-release 6.0.1086 and fixed?

Possibly yes - though some other (unrelated) changes should appear in the scanning engine (i.e. the virus database update) in the next few days which should have positive effect even for older program versions.

Btw, should be fixed by now.

…testing…

Confirmed. Fixed.

Thx.
