Avast 6 end of support policy = ?

Perhaps some things aren’t set in stone, but I’m hoping to get a sense of the duration/level of support for Avast 6 in the future. For example:

  1. Would there be any more revs to address serious matters such as exploits or severe bugs?
  2. For how much longer will avast 6 be able to pull definitions that are being kept up to date?
  3. For how much longer will avast 6 be able to utilize the cloud features?
  4. For how much longer will users of the free version be able to re-register/use it?

Those types of things. If anyone can provide some info, thanks

No. Just virus definitions updates. avast! does not keep multiply versions opened.

Difficult to say, but will be long years. The virus definitions for version 6 are in the same “scheme” of version 7. So, no problems.

They can’t… they’re not available in version 6.

30 days.

I’m still using the free version of avast 6.0.1367.

Does this mean I have to upgrade to avast 7 in 30 days?

I hope not. I’d like AVAST to put out a link of a good clean copy that I can download(ver6). I’ll wait until the bugs are out for 7.

Today I haven’t noticed many definition updates.
No pop ups saying an update took place as it usually does.

I was at 120227-0 this morning and I didn’t notice any later, so I manually updated it to 120227-1 myself.

I hope there aren’t anymore, because I haven’t received any after that one.

Definition updates occur usually twice a day. Or maybe three times. The update servers were down today, so there haven’t been any updates since 120227-0. That is untill 120227-1. I didn’t even notice untill recently that mine updated to it. The first reply to this thread is rather obvious though: You will be able to use avast 6 for several years and receive definition updates, but no program updates.

I’ve been using Nod32 version 2.7 for years on another computer, and even though the developers long since moved on to version 4 and maybe 5, 2.7 still receives updates till the end of April. I belive this is how it will work with Avast as well.

I’ve come to associate WebRep with the cloud.

Uh oh. Do you mean:

a) After 30 days one will no longer be able to re-register the free version of Avast 6
b) After 30 days one will no longer be able to use the free version of Avast 6
c) Both?

There are a number of machines I maintain which are running the free version of Avast 6. I don’t think 30 days will be near enough time to allow the dust to settle, to verify Avast 7 is acceptable, to test it myself for awhile, etc. Am I SOL? Can I buy more time by forcing re-registration within that window?

No. I’ve said you need to register the trial version after 30 days.
