(NOT on Win 7 SP 1 yet!!) Can’t finish booting after installing Avast 6. Tried all the clean install tricks too (safe mode, removal tool, etc, etc.) Nothing works. Will go back to a previous image and restore back to Avast 5 (can’t do it until tomorrow though!! )
Anyone know when the next build of 6 will be out? Gonna wait until then before trying again…
What other security software are you using? I am running Avast! 6 free with OA++ under Vista and also Avast! 6 AIS with a beta of OA++ under W7x64, with and without SP1 with no problems. What were you running before Avast! 5? Where does the boot hang? Have you tried removing all your USB connections before you boot?=Have seen that issue lately particularly with external USB2 drives.
It loads the desktop but never fills all the Tray icons. As for other security software, the closest would be WinPatrol. I do have Sandboxie and Ad Muncher booting too but it appears the computer never gets to the point that they are loading. I had Avast 5 running with all this “stuff” before this and never had anything like this happening. Worth noting, when Avast 6 is uninstalled, the PC boots normally.
The reason I plan to restore is because now that Avast 6 has been on the PC, it will no longer accept version 5 and run correctly on it. As someone else in another thread has found, even when using the cleanup tool, it seems that something in ver. 6 is staying behind and interferes with any future installation of Avast.
