Avast! 7.0.1407 Upgrade Glitches

Three issues are present at the moment.

  • Window that presents itself after reboot on upgrade from 6.0.1367 is persistent on at least three reboots/cold boots
  • Avast has a section in the scan section marked as “??” for scan parameters
  • A not connected to any avast! account listing is present

Clicking finish on the first window after reboot did not finalize the installation process, as the third such window on third reboot had an option to install Google Chrome (opt out only). Have not seen this window since I clicked finish on the third instance.

What is “?? ??” See first .jpeg attached.

What is an avast! account? Do you have one if you have paid for your license?

Hope this is clear enough.

A Custom Scan

Like this? If so I am having the same problem on XP sp3 and 7 sp1. I have rebooted way more then 3 times. And it still appears on every boot/reboot. Avast! is not running till I click finish.

Croozer,

Yes, that’s the window I was seeing.

The first two displayed exactly the same information yours does, and the third (and final) one had a new section about installing Google Chrome, with the boxes already ticked for install of Chrome.

I unticked the the two boxes, and Chrome did not install.

Pretty sneaky, to set as opt-out instead of opt-in, so if one was not paying attention, you get an install of Google Chrome whether you want it or not, when you click finish.

Methinks the repeated finish windows happened because the code in the window for Google Chrome never fully loaded, so… But, I was paying attention.

I have nothing against Chrome, except for the somewhat surreptitious way Google updates their browser without notification. Then, of course, there is the privacy issue now circulating around, too, also courtesy of Google. But, as this is off topic, I digress.

Be interesting to see if anyone else had this problem with this “finish” window at the end of the install process/reboot.

And yes, Avast! did not start properly until the finish window loaded properly and finish was clicked. In fact, it was dead in the water for about three minutes there, red X and all.

@YoKenny,

Thank you for explaining that, as a custom scan. Have no use for that, as default is good enough for me.

Still wondering why the option to connect is there for an avast! account??

I’m having the same issue with the pop up on start up, is there a solution yet?

Edit: Did a few tests, tried both checking and unchecking the community box, nothing seemed to help. Hoping this is fixed in an update.

Can you give step by step instructions on how to do this? I’ve never messed with avast before.

Nevermind, I fixed it, it wasn’t too hard, the problem is gone now, thanks a ton.

You’re welcome!

There needs to be a way to send cookies, the snack kind, not the digital kind over the internet, you deserve some for helping out and so does the person who discovered this issue.

Is there any chance doing this might cause an issue down the road?
