Avast 7 Freezing

I recently upgraded Avast to 7.0. I have Windows 7 SP1 Home, 4 gig of ram, 500gig hard drive, Comodo Internet Security 5.10. When it was installing it was showing the screen stating it was installing, it never reached 50%. I had to use the power button to reboot and it was installed. I tried to registered it froze. I eventually had to use the power button 4 times as each it time avast 7.0 froze my computer. Nothing was being loaded in the notification tray. I waited but it just stood there frozen.

I then rebooted and went into settings under Troubleshooting option. The only thing that I have checked is the following:

  1. Enable Avast self defense mode
  2. load avast services only after loading other system services
  3. limited program access on guest account.

It froze when I boot up the next day when Avast was in the system tray. I would like to know how much cpu usage does avast use.

Also I have used Avast previous version with Comodo Internet Security and never ever did I have a problem with the two of them conflicting. I do not think that Comodo and Avast are in conflict. I think perhaps it is the boot scanning that it does when one is first logged in that it does awhile to complete and the user thinks that it is frozen.

Does Avast do a boot scan or a system scan when first logging in, if so how do we stop the system scan on first login. Is there a user guide to download.

Thanks.

Hi Grail.

To start with, you may have a corupted install since you have to reboot in the middle of it. So it is better to do it again fresh.

Download and save to your desktop aswclear : http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility

Download and save a fresh copy of Avast!. Be sure to have your lincense handy if running a paid version:

http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe

Use aswclear in safe mode once for Avast! 7 and any other Avast! you may have had before. Reboot after each uninstall.

Reinstall fresh copy of Avast!

I hope you do not mean the whole Comodo suit, AV and all. Comodo Firewall/D+ runs great with Avast!, but Avast! 7 is very susceptible to other AV. Anyway if I install a fresh copy of Avast! I always disable D+.
