Avast 7 Scan Time

Has anyone else noticed the increase in scan time? Mine went up from around 16 minutes to 30 minutes for a full scan.

There have been posts about longer scan times, I have run quick and full scans and not noticed any real difference.

nope! i see my quick scans run just fine…gets over in 10 minutes.

nah i cranked the scans to max… the scan time in avast 7 increased a lot as i see my full scan only took 22 minutes  400000++ files quick scans take me 15 mins

What are your scan settings, and did you change any of them.

(No seriously guys, how come noody else asked this?)

I run a full scan daily, they have always been 14-16 minutes. Since upgrading the 2 scan times have been 29 & 30 minutes, 105203 files (less than other scans).

what are your computer specs because setting it to high priority might impact performance if your pc is old but for me i tick persient cache and tick store persient cache and high priority

Win XP Pro
Dual core 3gb
2g ram

Persistent cache & store persistent cache ticked and high priority.
I’ve not changed any Avast settings.

I think I’ve sorted the scan times (back down to 15 mins). I updated to Avast 7 from Avast 6 through the GUI, backed up my settings then had to reinstall because of the trouble with Avast 7. I reloaded Avast 7 and restored settings, including having ‘Persistent cache & store persistent cache’ ticked. I think this may have been a hiccup with Avast 7 as I unticked both then ticked them again’
All is now well with Avast 7.

Excellent Program!

Thanks for the feedback

Thanks for this. My scan times also had more than doubled, from 40s to about 1 min 40s. I found the second option (store cache) unticked. After ticking it off, the second time the quick scan has taken 26s. Very nice.

Now I need to probably turn off the cloud services to get my PC back to normal glitch free again. But somewhere somebody has posted that this setting does not seem to work.

Why turn off the Cloud Services, if it works great, if it doesn’t it has no impact on the other elements of avast. So I don’t know what you mean by “to get my PC back to normal glitch free again.” ?

If you did a clean install (and possibly on an update install) that would reset the Persistent cache, without that enabled your scans will take longer, so it takes a few scans to rebuild that persistent cache. Obviously you have to ‘Store data about scanned files in the persistent cache’ option enabled in the Performance section of the Scan (which you now have) for that cache to be built up.
