I updated my avast yesterday and I can no longer print. My printer is a Brother MFC-5890CN and the computer is using Windows XP Pro. I turned on the file and print sharing yesterday and it let it print, but when I turned my computer on today it was back to offline and file and print sharing is still turned on.
Not sure what to do at this point. I have done alot of searching online but can not find any solution.

If it is AIS I can not help you, but you can check the following post for ideas. Eventhough it is not about the same primter, Lukor ( Avast! team ) explain what can be done if printer is not connecting.

The solution is simple. Switch on your firewall log. Check your log and note the port blocked to your printer.
In my case it was port UDP 161. After making a rule for allowing traffic to that port, everything works fine again.
