AVAST 8 Program update! (8.0.1483)

I unticked “Scan all files” under “Scan when opening” tab in “File System Shield” Settings. Now I’m having no CPU problem. But the system is very vulnerable to viruses because Avast won’t even scan .exe files in a folder when opening that particular folder in Explorer… Is there anything I can do for this?

Thanks for the links to the solution for Avast 8. After upgrade and re-boot my PC with Win XP Pro 32-bit started blue-screening and then would blue-screen on boot-up. I had to roll back the registry to yesterday to get it to boot up and now my Avast is not working but I’ not blue-screening at least. I’m going to ghost the drive now in case anymore goes wrong when I try to re-install.

You don’t need to enable “Scan all files” to scan executable files. They are scanned by “Scan when executing” category when executed, and that provides enough protection.
As setting description says, scanning all files eats up CPU consuming and causes slowdown.

still avast! free not scanning ssl (https) connection.

Run the uninstaller for any AV’s you use prior to avast from here to remove remanents: http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/

  1. Download avast! Free Antivirus: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=117113.0
  2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed avast! versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot

Updated via the Avast! 8 GUI. Thanks a lot. Keep up the good work ;D

This appears to be a self inflicted injury as Scan all files is unchecked by default (certainly on my settings). The text below it is the reason why it isn’t enabled by default.

EDIT: wrong image attached.

Updated through GUI to version 8.0.1483 avast free.
No problems, so far.

EDIT Updated through GUI to version 8.0.1483 Professional version. No problems

Doing perfect like all the last versions after update via GUI to .1483 8)

You can use comodo firewall and disable the Defense + option and still use Avast sandbox

Thanks Pavel.
I’m hoping it’ll allow me to install FW on Vista without CPU 100%. :-\

I think we free users eyes have the bad faith to view that ugly skin for ever… :frowning: I wonder…designers didn’t get any other color!! :-\

I hope not… This new version of Avast! might well be the most horrible looking free antivirus.
But as for me the protection is still the most important part.

Many new improvements have been done in protection (proactive protection)

This update doesn’t fix the issue I had with the avast plugin for firefox I reported in an earlier post about webrep not honoring settings.

Thanks pavel and the avast! team for a job well done, although I had no problems before.
Updated from the GUI with no problems and ran a quick scan afterwards.
