I believe it was several weeks ago my Avast updated to version 8. I know that because the face changed and I had to figure out where and how again and wasn’t real tickled about it. I haven’t paid any attention since. Today I ran the FileHippo.com Update Checker and it showed that Avast needs to be updated to 8.0.1483.
So I checked and find that I have 7.0.1455. What is going on?
When I clicked to update it says that I already have the current version, which is 7.0.1455, and I am up to date.
Something very screwy is happening here because this program was updated to version 8 and now it’s back to version 7, all on its own. Can someone shed light on this?
Avast has been pretty much trouble free, running quietly in the background and leaving me alone for quite some time. I guess it was too much to hope that it would last. It sure seems to use a lot of system resources anymore. When it scans it just about stops me from doing anything else and it never used to be that way. That has been the case for a while now, and much worse just recently, which I blamed on the new version … which seems to have reverted on me.
I have not gone ahead and installed version 8 again because my avast program is telling me that I have the latest version. I would like to hear from someone about this matter. Please, avast, could you give me a reply to this?
I would like to know why and how avast downgraded itself back to version 7 without any help from me. There’s got to be some kind of glitch somewhere for it to do this.
Sorry guys, I had no opportunity to read this topic sooner. The behavior you describe is caused by broken Avast installation. When you tried to update, there was no information about your current edition to be found and you falled back to ABP (which is, of course, incorrect).
Now, the easiest and most safe solution would be to download new installer and reinstall Avast.
This sure doesn’t make sense to me at all. Avast was working fine (still is to my knowledge) until this version 8. So, are you saying that the version 8 installer was broken and now will cause me to reinstall the whole thing?
Uninstalling and reinstalling avast is no one-click task and I’m sure not happy about having to do this. Since everything was fine before V. 8, maybe these new versions should be tested a bit more before they are released.
I hate to say this because I have recommended this program over and over to people; have even purchased it for for one … But, I have not been real happy with Avast for a while. It’s starting to remind me of the problem I had with Norton years ago.

That was a bug in 1483, should be fixed in the latest release (1488).
Test the releases thoroughly and fix the bugs before the update is released to possibly cause problems on a customer’s computer.
So, do I have to completely uninstall and reinstall avast or what?
