Avast 8 - Windows 8 - Action Center - Issue

Hi,
I noticed this morning the following issue.
Action center shows Avast FW as off yet as the screenshot shows it is on.

Update:
Does not seem to happen all the time. This morning was the first time I noticed it. This afternoon it has gone again.
Will monitor it and update if it happens regularly.

Ok, well I have noticed it again today.

I am experiencing a similar issue, only in Windows 7 64bit. Periodically I receive an Action Center message that Avast Internet Security is not on. When I check AIS, it shows that it is running. I run Services as Admin and “restart” Avast and that clears the AC message. This is new as of the update to Avast 8.

Thoughts?

This has been an on again, off again issue for quite sometime.

Usually this has been fixed via a vps update. But posting in the feedback area won’t hurt since Lukas keeps a close eye on the feedback area. 8)

Thanks Para-Noid
I have raised it here: https://feedback.avast.com/responses/avast-801843-firewall-windows-action-center.

You are more than welcome. I did notice you feedback post went from “new” to “in progress”. Hopefully you will soon see results.

I also noticed this when using the last 3 Versions of Avast 8.

I am running Windows 8 x64 current patch/Windows updates

Does Avast Support Windows 8 at all?

Is it tested and validated?

Action Center does not notice me for fun: There must be something suspicious whith the Software, possibly a root kit?

Are there any official Statements from avast technical Support?

Best Regards

Cheers, Oblomow

Avast works fine on Windows 8, many including myself have it installed and no issues with the latest release.

The topic is a couple of months old now so be sure to have the latest version 8.0.1489 installed.

The Problem was introduced with avast! Free Antivirus 8.0.1482 or 1483 and hasn’t been resolved with recent avast! Free Antivirus 8.0.1489!

It is caused by automatic program actualizations.

Reinstalling the latest Version over the current Installation and a Reboot helps sometimes - Or uninstall Avast, reboot, Reinstall, Reboot

Definitively this is not the behavior of a tested and validated Software, even it’s free

Have you tried uninstalling then running the removal tool in safe mode for all versions of avast ever installed before re-installing avast ? if you been upgrading from version to version it might be time for a clean install.

Definitively No.

I have 4 Versions of Avast 8 in my download area.
At a Minimum I reinstalled it once ore twice from scratch, once with removing it before.

With the current Version Action Center Shows the correct Virus and Spyware protection

I think there is a Problem with the update mechanism in Avast - An Feature which is elementary for an Anti Virus SW.

Did you completely remove Office Professional before applying each new patch ???

Yes, I will completely remove avast somewhere in the future - But then I will install Avira free instead

Up to now I preferred avast against all the others - Even all the test I read recommended the others as better.

Antivirus Program upgrades are a little more crucial in relation to how there implemented into your system so deeply and have more variables to contend with than “Office Professional” so a clean install using the removal tool would be your best option imo.

Note that this Action Centre issue is not avast related ( it’s a Windows problem ) as I have other systems here running different AV’s and they also have the same problem from time to time and so far to date the system that uses avast here on Windows 8 doesn’t and has never had this problem, go figure!

For Windows Vista/7/8

a) Open an elevated command prompt as follows

For Vista/7 go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > right click on Command Prompt and choose Run as Administrator

For Windows 8 hover the mouse to the bottom left corner until you are seeing the Start pictogram > right click on it and choose Command Prompt (Admin)

b) In the command prompt window type the command below and press Enter

winmgmt /verifyrepository

c) You will get either one of these results:

WMI repository is consistent -no problems detected >> go to step f)

WMI repository is inconsistent -problems detected >> go to step d)

d) To rebuild the repository type the command below and hit Enter

 winmgmt /salvagerepository

e) You will receive one of the results below

WMI repository is consistent -no problems detected >> go to step f)

WMIrepository salvage failed -failed to rebuild WMI repository. Try repeating step d) again.

WMIrepository has been salvaged - WMI repository has been successfully rebuilt. >> go to step g)

f) Reset the repository to its initial state using the command below and hit Enter

winmgmt /resetrepository

g) Now reboot the PC and check if the issue reoccurs

FWIW in Vista:

WMI repository rest failed Error code: 0X80077041B

Will see if rebooting works anyway…

Fixed - guess that’s why you need to reboot. Thanks.

sirhcnotroh solution works for me for a few hours, then it is back to the same. Thus it is not a solution.
This needs to be fixed by avast
