Hi,
I noticed this morning the following issue.
Action center shows Avast FW as off yet as the screenshot shows it is on.
Update:
Does not seem to happen all the time. This morning was the first time I noticed it. This afternoon it has gone again.
Will monitor it and update if it happens regularly.
I am experiencing a similar issue, only in Windows 7 64bit. Periodically I receive an Action Center message that Avast Internet Security is not on. When I check AIS, it shows that it is running. I run Services as Admin and “restart” Avast and that clears the AC message. This is new as of the update to Avast 8.
This has been an on again, off again issue for quite sometime.

Usually this has been fixed via a vps update. But posting in the feedback area won’t hurt since Lukas keeps a close eye on the feedback area. 8)
Have you tried uninstalling then running the removal tool in safe mode for all versions of avast ever installed before re-installing avast ? if you been upgrading from version to version it might be time for a clean install.
Antivirus Program upgrades are a little more crucial in relation to how there implemented into your system so deeply and have more variables to contend with than “Office Professional” so a clean install using the removal tool would be your best option imo.
Note that this Action Centre issue is not avast related ( it’s a Windows problem ) as I have other systems here running different AV’s and they also have the same problem from time to time and so far to date the system that uses avast here on Windows 8 doesn’t and has never had this problem, go figure!
For Vista/7 go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > right click on Command Prompt and choose Run as Administrator
For Windows 8 hover the mouse to the bottom left corner until you are seeing the Start pictogram > right click on it and choose Command Prompt (Admin)

e) You will receive one of the results below
WMI repository is consistent -no problems detected >> go to step f)
WMIrepository salvage failed -failed to rebuild WMI repository. Try repeating step d) again.
WMIrepository has been salvaged - WMI repository has been successfully rebuilt. >> go to step g)
f) Reset the repository to its initial state using the command below and hit Enter
winmgmt /resetrepository
g) Now reboot the PC and check if the issue reoccurs
