Note: please be sure you run all uninstall and cleanup utility as administrator and - which is very important! - you rune it AS ADMINISTRATOR. Be an administrator and run something “as administrator” is not the same so you should do right click on a exe file and choose "Run as Administrator"option.
restart and delete manually both avast folders. One in Program Files and one in Program Data.
Then check if in the adapter properties in control panels → network adapter settings is not present “avast firewall NDIS filter miniport”. If yes, remove it manually please.
Then go to Windows\System32\DriverStore folder and search for aswndis*.* . If there will be anything with this delete it manually.
and install it. Before operating system restart go to avast GUI → additional protection → and experts setting of avast safezone and reset Safe Zone and you may reset Sand box too.
After successful installation could you double click on you license file to register your copy of avast.
Turn on Windows firewall
my system should go to sleep in 15 minutes, it didn’t after 1 hour, so I put it to sleep manually, it wakes immediately, hibernation does the same.
I’m om windows7 ultimate 64bit sp1 and home 64bit.
is there a setting that has to be changed to let the system sleep, or is it still broken?
There is a Avast Repair option in the Add/Remove programs in your computer that would solve most issues with Avast.
Click on “Start”, find “Control Panel” and click on it. A new window will open. Scroll down until you see Programs, click on it. Another panel will open up, you should see at the top Programs and Features, click on it and another panel will open up. Scroll down until you see Avast Internet Security, once you find it, right click it (hover your mouse over it will say Uninstall/Change). Once you click it another panel will be shown from Avast. Their will be several options for you to choose from. On the left side there will be shown the following. Update, Change, Repair, and Uninstall. Click on REPAIR and follow the instructions. This should fix any issues you have with Avast.
