I install two antivirus softwares in my pc in the office: one the tread officescan (corporation version) and the other is avast home edition.
However, avast always gives me the alert that some files in C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\OfficeScan Client\Temp, such as VSSCVKEV.004 as some kind of Traj virus. I do notice that trend software generates some files with random names.
The problem is that once the alert is given, I shall delete it and then have to wait for a while. If I click IE without waiting, the system will hang on.
I try to uninstall avast, but if so, I could not log in a network disk and, even worse, all the email boxes, including hotmail and gmail.
Is there anybody who could tell me why and how to solve it?
Having two resident scanners installed is not recommended as rather than provide twice the protection it can cause conflicts that could leave you more vulnerable.
avast is likely detecting trends signatures, one of the reason why two isn’t always better than one. It looks like trend is using the temp folder to unpack stuf anf avast is detecting what is unpacked.
Surely you should be using avast Pro in an office environment and not avast home.
The reason I used avast was because I saw some strange processes running, which is known as some processes from trend now. But I thought they were viruses. As I trust avast, which is currently used in my home pc, I installed one to scan the system. Thus I found the problem stated before.
There is a possibility that the detections were signatures but now way to tell for sure if as you say they are using random names, then googling the file names might not bring much information if any.
I feel the problems you mentioned could be conflict between the two resident scanners, each fighting for control over opening processes and the only way to proceed is to uninstall one AV and then try to resolve the problem if it hasn’t gone away.
currently, if i uninstall avast, I could not log in the email boxes, including hotmail and gmail. After filling the name and password and click “log in”, IE returns a black page.
If you have uninstalled avast then there should be no conflict or interaction so I can’t understand why this is happening.
What is your OS ?
What errors are you getting when you can’t log in to email boxes ?
Please post the full text or a screenshot of the error.
What is your firewall ?
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD so you can find it later. Run the utility that should ensure that any remnants are removed.
Sorry I’m no further ahead than from your last post 11 days ago, if avast isn’t installed (please confirm), then you firewall shouldn’t be blocking ashWebSv.exe (web shield) provider.
If it is still installed the potential for conflict is very possible and may be the cause of the problems. So it should be uninstalled and rebooted then run the uninstall utility, neither of which you have confirmed.
Previously with avast there was a problem with the privacy function of zone alarm pro and the avast web shield proxy. When you log-in on an http page, flip to an https (secure) page for validation and back to an http page to view your email, parameters are passed and the firewall was blocking this action. I don’t know if something similar to this is happening with comodo and Trend OfficeScan as I have absolutely no experience of this application. However, when this did happen I believe there was a page displayed with an error.
I don’t know if reinstalling the comodo firewall will be of any help or ultimately having to reinstall the Trend officescan on this system.
