AVAST AND AVG,

Before talk about AVG and AVAST…

Owe the board an apologie, ;D

Since got AVAST in 2005 never a major problem,
worked so good never needed advice

But back then, had to dump avg to get AVAST, they fought!

Both have upgraded ALOT,
In last 3 months both work fine at same time on my setup…double protection.

Just a heads up, something ya might wanna try, both free…

it’s not a good idea to have 2 on-acces scanners at the same time (as far as i understood from your message) :-
keep one as on-access scanner and the other as on-demand one (backup).

Hi GhosIT,

This is right what Minacross says. Two resident scanners on the same machine is asking for trouble. It does not mean double protection as sometimes people think. The resident scanners are going to detect each others definitions and it is also a way of getting a lot of False Positives. What you could do to enhance the scanning power of ONE resident scanner is add non-resident scanners to your Avast scanner like ClamWin or F-prot-for-Dos with the updater, the latest version of stinger.exe or to use online scanners like Bitdefender’s online scanner. Avoid Panda’s online scanner because that scanner does interfere with Avast’s because the Panda definition. Scanning inside your browser is also a good extra option. You can pre-scan all the hyperlinks before clicking them with the DrWeb’s hyperlink av-scanning add-on for IE, FF, Flock, Opera (in Opera it is a manual set-up). Inside Firefox you also have an option to have on-demand scanning by ClamWin (special add-on), or you can install the Avast webshield inside (see online vissual instruction how to do this on the Avast homepage).

polonus

he can also use these two online scanners which i also use besides my only and best resident scanner-Avast!(don’t have 2 on your computer at the same time) ??? 8)

bitdefender online scanner(click where it says scan online)

kaspersky online scanner…

yep…having 2 on-access scanners is bad for ur system…u lose ur ram worthless and the protection is less than if u had 1 on-access scanner…also, having avg isnt a good option…there are many AVs which are better than avg and offer free on demand scanners like bitdefender free(http://www.bitdefender.com/site/view/Download-Free-Products.html)…also on-demand scanning via internet is a good option(bitdefender online scan, housecall and kaspersky)…

Thanks guys,

Yes, I knew long ago about not running 2 at once, fighting, cutting into each other.

And they have,a little since started this, again…

But the minor problems that have shown up so far, easy fixes…
(calling them EASY is cause, although far from a newbie,FAR from highly skilled…LOLOLOLOL)

And calling it DOUBLE PROTECTION----yes wrong, they both cover most of the same stuff.

And Yes, Know AVAST is WAY better than AVG,but…
AVG is ,so far, adding more to security, than the combo takes away for my personal setup.
So still gonna play with this combo a while.

If any problems become too big, will,of course delete AVG, not AVAST.

But for right now, just my personal setup…
Having good luck with the combo.

Note, I didn’t say, GET BOTH, I said…
“something ya might wanna try”

I hope you have time to do so ;D
avast is more configurable, the updates are more reliable, better interface, etc.
The detection rates fluctuates, sometimes one is better than the other.
