I’ve had to completely remove avast as it blocked my browser accessing the internet, despite cleaning and safe moding and rebooting etc etc about 6 times, i just gave up in the end after several wasted hours.
Anyway, now when my Outlook 2007 loads i get “The Add-in “avast!” (C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\ashOutXt.dll) cannot be loaded and has been disabled by Outlook. Please contact the Add-in manufacture for an update. If no update is available, please uninstall the Add-in.”
So i checked this out, and have tried both deleting and renaming ‘extend.dat’ like everybody says. And i search and it’s really gone. Then i load Outlook again, and i still get the same error message.
If i go into Tools Trust Centre, this add-in doesn’t appear. Avast doesn’t appear in my list of programs so i can’t remove it any more than i have.
How else can i fix this - SOMEBODY HELP ME PLEASE!
Evidently the uninstallation(s) was (were) not so “complete” as you thought.
If I may, I think that changing a simple setting in Avast would have solved your problem.
Web shield → EXPERT settings → “…well known browser only” checked. Then save and reboot.
If you don’t want to try troubleshooting, and you don’t want Avast anymore, then try downloading the removal utility from http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility and run it under Windows Safe Mode.
You can also try this removal tool before reinstalling Avast, for troubleshooting purposes.
HTH.
Hiya
I’ve already tried that, i had to use it in safe mode to remove avast the first three times! Looks like i might have to reinstall it to try removing it again, as there’s no avast folder for the removal tool to clear out???
The “key” here is probably in the "skip the “Add/Remove Programs” step, and using the Clear Uninstall Utility under Safe Mode DIRECTLY.
Hiya
Reinstalled it, so tried your tip about the web settings - no joy. So used the add/remove programs, then into safe mode for the clearout and final reboot, and now happy to report my email works without complaining and i’m free!
I’ve been very happy with avast for the past couple of years, then i must have updated something sunday evening, and it all went horribly wrong - a sad end to a happy relationship!
Are you sure it is only Avast fault?
Pretty sure yes, the moment i removed avast, even before rebooting, my browser worked fine again. And i even tried ie and that hadb’t worked with avast either.
never mind, all good things…
Well, I’m glad you have a working system now, but several of your answers pointed to strange things.
Like:
So used the add/remove programs
i removed avast, even before rebooting, my browser worked fine again
Which, if you were following the instructions, neither of them make any sense.
