Avast and Vongo

I have been using Vongo since the first of the year. Yesterday with the latest database update, Avast is identifiying that Vongo.exe has Win32:Adware-gen. It has done this on all of my machines.

What is happening and why did Avast all of a sudden identify this?

Joe

you can zip the offending file and send it to ( virus @ avast.com ) without the spaces and password protect it using VIRUS as the password along with a reference to this thread then maybe next update it will be fixed
In the meanwhile you can add it to the exclusion lists in program settings and standard shield so it doesnt get detected again .
good luck

Are you thinking that this might be a false positive?

You could also check the offending/suspect file at: VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner
Or Jotti - Multi engine on-line virus scanner if any other scanners here detect them it is less likely to be a false positive. You can’t do this with the file in the chest, you will need to move it out.

Most probably… because:

I have added this program to the exclusions list.

Since it has been detected by Avast, how can I get this program “unflaged” so I can use it again. Even though I have rescan the program (with no error), reinstalled the program, Avast keeps on saying that it has a virus.

I am unable to zip Vongo.exe. What should I do?

There are two Exclusion lists:

For the Standard Shield provider (on-access scanning):
Left click the ‘a’ blue icon, click on the provider icon at left and then Customize.
Go to Advanced tab and click on Add button…

For the other providers (on-demmand scanning):
Right click the ‘a’ blue icon, click Program Settings.
Go to Exclusions tab and click on Add button…

You can:

  1. Disable avast antivirus (right click the ‘a’ blue icon and choose to Stop On-access Protection.
  2. Send an email with the file to: virus@avast.com You can zip and password the files… Inform a link to this thread and the password used.
  3. Or you can add the file to avast Chest (Quarentine) and send it from there Chest to Alwil for analysis.
