Installing latest version of Avast 7 Pro and have found that unless WebRep is disabled inhouse applications using a web browser will not work, neither will it allow YouTube to run dowloads. I have a PC that will not now allow anything to run in a web browser at all! Any ideas to fix this as I dont want to have re-install XP. I have tried deleting Avast and using Aswclear but the problem is still there. I have raised a ticket but only had a very limited response. Pity support is not better.
Try a “repair”. Control Panel>Programs and Features>uninstall a program>double click “avast”>scroll to and click “repair”>reboot
Also, what other security software do you have now or “ever” had?
If uninstalled how was it uninstalled? ???

Hi
The only anti-virus software run on this machine was an earlier version of Avast. After uninstalling it Aswclear was run to make sure the system was clean. Today I tried to install Avast on another machine and got the same result even though Webrep was disabled so I dont know if that is the problem after all. It was Support that suggested Webrep to be the cause of the problem. Internet Explorer is the browser in use. The trouble is that this does not happen on all machines and I do not want to have to reinstall the O/S when I get an install that fails. Given the total silence from Support I may dump Avast and go to someone else that troubles to support their product. A pity as it means Avast will lose the income from 35+ licences.
Thanks for your interest. I will try the repair option and keep you posted
