Running Vista Home Premium, Windows Mail. When I start the mail program, it hangs and will not connect to my server. It works fine without Avast. I have just uninstalled Windows Live OneCare. DomI need to change other Windows Security settings, or do some other setups in Avast for it to work properly?
Thanks
Did you use AVG? Any other antivirus besides avast?
Which is your firewall?
I have used AVG, and it is Windows Firewall. I found AVG very slow and used a lot of the computer. Was told Avast was much better, but can’t figure out the mail issue.
The previous anti-virus for quite a while was Windows Live OneCare. I have uninstalled that.
AVG Remover can be downloaded here: http://www.avg.com/download-tools
Are there any settings I should know about when installing Avast on Windows Vista, using Windows Mail?
The defaults should be fine.
I don’t know your ISP but be aware that SSL email connections are not scanned because of the security precauitions your ISP has taken.
Your ISP will inform you if SSL email connection is necessary.
If an infected attachment were opened then avast would immediately detect it but it is wise to never open attachments without investigation of them.
YoKenny is right, the defaults setting works okay with me using windows mail on Vista Business.
Thanks guys. Just installed Avast and everything seems to be working fine.
