as the title states, if I have GPS turned off on my phone can Avast anti theft turn on the GPS to locate it on map?
I have tried everything and no matter what it just says unable to locate your device.
however If i turn on the GPS myself and then use the locate device it instantly finds it… THis is no good if I loose my phone with GPS turned off, Avast needs to be able to turn it on for me… can it do this or not?
I’m hoping it can… if so what am I doing wrong? :o
I would have thought that the anti-theft function should be able to enable GPS. If it can’t it kind of reduces the point of having the anti-theft if it can’t turn on GPS to report your location.
Are there any codes that can be sent to the phone from the my.avast.com account that can enable the GPS to report its position ?
It can’t be turned on remotely as Google has disabled the ability to enable GPS without user interaction.
However with certain phones it seem to be possible to enable it remotely if the manufacturer has installed system app for it.
E.G. Samsung has a phone-finder website. (https://findmymobile.samsung.com/)
I generally don’t have Location (GPS) enabled because of all of the google tracking and cr4p. I only enable it when I absolutely need it otherwise it is off.
WTF? This AAT SUX, in other version the gps turn on when the command of the web LOCATE is send but now the command not work in android 6 or android 7.-
why happend withe the update of AAT? i go tried other program anti thefht cerberus prey or devie manager
AAT SUX
I don’t believe the GPS ‘interface’ as such was removed, but they Google removed the ability to switch it on remotely on recent Android versions (as the anti-theft used to do).
GPS is still available on a number of apps but the user has to give permission to use GPS, it isn’t allowed to be done remotely.
That “Google tracking and crXp” is a myth, believe me – nobody from Google will care about “YOU” in particular. One in a billion users? Sorry to ruin your pride, bro!
… But I find the Google history of places I visited (in Gmaps) very useful (when GPS is turned “on”, BTW the power-management is much better now and it is not “on” all the time but only when it detects “movement”)
I would even rely on this “history” as a “backup” solution, to apps that are failing to do their job with every new release of OS/and/or device (hint to Avast) … Don’t be pissed, please, and if you are on the CIA list “for monitoring” … your trouble is much bigger than GPS not working in Avast LOL … 8)
The tracking that goes on is more revenue based, to serve ads and suggestions, how do they do that locally so it is supposedly relevant to you, and that would be GPS.
They aren’t interested in ‘you’ as such just what they can serve up to you and any any revenue they can get from such ads.
