Avast antivirus (licensed) has blocked my internet connection

So I don’t know what happened, on Sunday Mar the 29th, all of a sudden my internet connection stopped. My laptop had used internet earlier that day and worked fine.
It connects to any wifi in range and then it sais there is no internet available. The troubleshooter gives a IP not configured error. It happened when connecting directly with the ethernet cable as well.
I have to mention all other devices in the house were connecting succesfully to the same wifi networks or via ethernet cable to the router.

What option from Avast does this? I have currently disabled my paid antivirus because I cannot use the internet with it disabled. It was by chance that I disabled the antivirus and noticed the laptop connected straight away to the internet.

Can someone pls help me deactivate this option? I would very much like to keep my antivirus… on.

Thanks in advance

If you have paid version that has Avast Firewall, have you set Avast Firewall to “Private”. The default is “Public” and is restrictive.

  • Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premium)
  • Which version/build of Avast…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

I have the same issue as the first poster, with the same timing (last weekend) and result (currently running Windows Defender with Avast firewall turned off). Private network, licensed copy of Avast, Windows 10, etc. Started seeing a red bubble on lower right-hand corner of bootup screen suggesting an issue with Avast; thought at first it was a timing issue (Windows updates really slow my machine). I’ve also done a full repair on Avast. Don’t know what happened recently, but something is not happy with Avast currently.

Avast app and definitions all current. Curiously, I’m being asked on an Avast screen if I want to try out the new update coming out in 2020, but I think I’m already on that; message seems to be from 2019.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Can I suggest you answer the questions asked by Asyn in his post above.
Also please attach screen shot/s of any unusual displays like you have mentioned.
Note there have been reports of Win10 internet connectivity issues affecting some. See here:

Thanks to the pointer to the Microsoft bug. I’ll wait for that first. FYI on some of your questions, I’ve been on Avast Pro for years, running Windows 64 on a 3 year old HP laptop, have the latest Windows version pushed out to me last week so all that should be current, Avast tells me my program and definitions are all current. If MS doesn’t resolve the issue I’ll gather the rest of the info requested and try for a screenshot or two.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi,
So I have a paid version of Avast Internet Security that I have been using for the last 3 yrs, without using any other virus protection on this laptop.
Program version: 20.1.2397 (build 20.1.5069.562)
Virus def version: 20.1.2397 (build 20.1.5069.562)
UI Version: 1.0.460
running on a 8yr old laptop, with Win10 on 64bit.

I have set up my firewall to Private and internet connection was still nill. I did this before updating.
I noticed something there and I tried my chance, it was the Offline mode. It had been Enabled so I Disabled it (I do not recall ever enabling it since I’ve no clue of any of these) and after turning my avast back ok my internet connection has been re-established. So I am guessing this was because of the enabled offline mode… after I got back my internet connection I have also updated the version.

Thanks for your help guys, hope this was it! And apologies for my lack of knowledge. What’s annoying is that my work’s IT dept had no clue how to help me…

Kind regards
Anca
