Avast asked me to restart the computer.
Then my profile disappeared, and all my files.
Chrome got changed etc.
What to do?

Ditch avast and Windows and move to Linux mint cinnamon

I don’t know why Avast did that. If it even did. Sounds horrible.

This is not going to help you now, but for everybody else: backup backup backup!
I image my Windows partition once a month. Just as a precaution and to have something to pick files out from if needed. And I keep a rolling 6 months worth of images. The files get stored on my data partition which then gets regularly backed up to an external drive.

Thank you for your answer, you are right, backups are important.

I do not know WHO or WHAT did this,
but this happened with the restart required by Avast.

Luckily, I keep most of the files in a cloud, just in case.
But I could not reach them on the computer.

Then I realized - from the memory picture - that the files were still on the disk,
but I could not reach them.

Finally, although I was not allowed to see them at first,
I succeeded in digging them up,
and I retrieved the Chrome as well,
but still, I am in some TEMP part of the disk,
and do not know how to return to the original order.

Is your user profile really missing or is it that you can’t log into it anymore? How are you currently logged in? A new profile? If so; try logging out (not restarting), and see if you can log into your old profile.

I logged in using the same password, and I am in.
Of course I tried to restart - although with some fear what would be next…
However, the appeareances are different, bare, I would say, and the files and folders invisible.
The files I create are in some TEMP folder.
Scary.
Only with time I was able to dig in or dive in and reach my files.
Maybe I should copy all of them and bring them “here”.
But I still do not understand what happened,
and what could be expected.

Thank you for your interest.
