Hi,
every now and then I need to scan A4 document. To do that, I’m using fairly old scanner, which still serves me well. It’s original software has not been updated for a long time, but luckily there is an independent software vender Hamrick Software supporting wide range of scanners with their product VueScan and my Benq 5000E is one of supported models.
Yesterday, no matter what I did, I couldn’t get scanner working. Sometimes device driver reported error “Code 10 Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API.”, sometimes device driver appeared to be working properly, but VueScan application still was not able to communicate to scanner. I’ve even tried disabling all avast shields, it’s self protect module and enable passive mode, but none of that helped. Only after complete Avast uninstallation, scanner started working.
Is there any chance Avast team is going to investigate the cause of this issue and eventually fix it? If so, do you need any more information about the issue? I’m running Windows 10/latest Avast AV/latest VueScan
Before uninstalling Avast, I’ve not typed down which version was installed, but since I’ve updated to latest version a few days ago, it should be 22.2.6003, according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avast_Antivirus
64bit OS, Windows 10 version 1607, OS Build 14393.2724
The only other security related software installed is provided by Microsoft as part of Windows 10 (Windows Defender)
I’ve decided not to pursue this issue further, since I’ve already got scanned all I needed to scan after uninstalling Avast. I’ve been looking for new scanner for some time, unfortunately for the time being all low end desktop scanner like Cannon Lide 400 are out of stock, probably due to the damn chip shortage. Also, I’m sure Avast engineers have better things to do than trying to solve compatibility issue between Avast and 15 year old scanner.
