If you install Avira with a custom install, don’t select Avira Guard or Rootkit detection. Just install the shell extention. This will only give you ON-Demand capabilities. It will not scan files on read/write in realtime. I have been using Avast/Avira like this for over a year and have not had a single conflict. They work great together! But as I said in my previous post, I prefer Avast for the realtime stuff.
avira on-demand scans are very good, if you setting on expert mode. I has been setting like that is blocking malwares when it detected on the internet. Sometimes is block you from getting into the sites and notify that. That’s why i like this setting better, if not they detected and ask you what sould you do with it…
Did you said that you using avast + avira at the sametime?
I wouldn’t do that if i were you.
