I use newest Avast! home version and have noticed that my mouse hangs when surfing on web or when using other programs. My mouse is Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical (not wireless).
I try to disable some background scanners on Avast but it didn’t help.
Has anybody similar problem or somekind solution ?
Teemu, welcome…
I’m not sure that it could be avast related as you’re disabling it and still have the problem…
Did you fully scanned your system?
Did you try another mouse in the same computer and the opposite, this mouse in another computer?
Welcome to avast forums 8)
Thanks, nice to be here. I hope this can be solved because it is very annoying to do anything with mouse like this.
I removed Avast completely and then reinstalled it, but problem is still there.
It can be reproduced opening webpage where is flashanimations or animated gif-images.
Now there are all 7 modules running and the settings of the modules has not been touched.
Do you know how much paging file size can affect to Avast, or does it affect at all ?
I have set two pagingfiles, one on the system disk (system managed size) and other about 2GB on other disk.
Hi,
I’ve had a simular problem.
I installed Avast on Win98-Systems and had Problems with the mouse control after removing AVAST everything was good again.

In fact, it shouldn’t affect… but what are you taking as ‘hanging’ mouse, I mean, you’re running a scan and you get a ‘glasshour’ mouse or the mouse does not move on the screen… Are you running a background scanning (right clicking the skin) or just minimize the skin?
Mousepointer get hanged or freezed about 2-5 seconds, without any background scan activated. This appeared after some Avast update, i think. Rollback to earlier mousedriver didn’t help. Rootcause maybe somewhere else but i didn’t remember problem like this, either Google.
What firewall software you use ?
I bought a new mouse and the problem was solved.
A firewall is an essential security program, even if using a hardware router with firewall. Zone Alarm free http://www.zonelabs.com works fine with avast and has a reasonably friendly user interface. There are others, Comodo, Jetico, Sunbelt Kerio, etc.
See some firewall tests for comparison, some are freeware but many are paid for versions http://www.firewallleaktester.com/tests.php. Also see http://www.thefreecountry.com/security/firewalls.shtml
Any malware that manages to get past your defences will have free reign to connect to the internet to either download more of the same, pass your personal data (user names, passwords, keylogger retrieved data, etc.) or open a backdoor to your computer, so outbound protection is essential.
What is the sensitivity of standard shield ?
Normal is the default and provides a good balance between protection and performance, High or greater will scan more files.
You could enable ‘Show detailed info on performed actions’ to give an indication of just what is being scanned, once identified, if this is a log file, etc. then it could be added to the standard shield exclusions.
