avast said i was infected suggested i run boot time scan. I did put all infections in chest. to test and see if false positive, I right click, scan and it says scan complete. Says nothing about being infected. Do i move out of chest? How? Has been 6 weeks since I put in chest, computer seems to work fine. They are system files. Occured before I got soft soldier and used malware to get rid of it. Most recent got infected in zwunzil free download. Those continue to say infected. Right click and delete will take care of them? Thank you
The suggestion to do a boot-time scan to me indicates that this was likely to be a detection of something loaded into memory. When did this detection happen and what were you doing ?
Right click scan on what exactly ?
If scanning from within the avast chest, which files were reported clean ?
e.g. Original File name. Location and Malware name that was first assigned.
The fact that a file happens to be in the system folder/s doesn’t mean it is a system file, that is a common tactic of malware to place files there.
Issue came up as soon as I booted my computer this am. Did boot time scan as prompted.
(Last thing yesterday I downloaded a free software to record tapes,LP to PC. This from cnet.
-Free Sound Recrder v8.1.1 Cool Media Software-)
In virus chest right click on kernal32.dll C:\WINDOWS\system32
says no virus. Ok they are listed as no virus since I did the scan on them this am.
sorry this is confusing.
Since there are items ( above plus another kernal32.dll, winsock.dll, wsock32.dll) that are listed as ‘no virus’ do I ignore them or restore them?
I really do wish Alwil would get rid of this All Chest Files collation of the three sections:
- The only area you should be interested in is the Infected Files section, this is where the files detected by avast and selected by you to move to the chest are placed.- The User Files section is where the user can add files they suspect of being malware but not detected by avast.- The System Files section is where avast keeps back-up copies of important system files in case the original becomes infected (leave them alone).- The All Chest Files is a collation of the three sections.
So aside from Infected Files section, the pothers should be left alone - Anything that you send to the chest you should leave there for a few weeks (so those 6 week ones can be scanned). If after that time you have suffered no adverse effects from moving these to the chest, scan them again (inside the chest) and if they are still detected as viruses, delete them.
Did avast say what the malware name was associated with the memory alert (suggested boot-time scan) ?

If you haven't already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it and report the findings (it should product a log file).
- 1. MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, On-Demand only in free version http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/malwarebytes/mbam-setup.exe, right click on the link and select Save As or Save File (As depending on your browser), save it to a location where you can find it easily later. - 2. SUPERantispyware On-Demand only in free version.
Don't worry about reported tracking cookies they are a minor issue and not one of security, allow SAS to deal with them though. - See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_cookie.
such a lovely help you are!
Have malwarebyte, update every day, run every week.
will get super anti.
1-So, in chest, leave alone stuff in system files and concern self only with infected files?
2- In chest, after 2-4 weeks, check infected files. If still infected delete?
Thanks for your patience.
No problem, glad I could help.
- yes, they are clean backup copies put there by avast.
- leaving a delay of at least 3 weeks would reveal any issues relating to their move to the chest. It also allows for correction to virus signatures if it happened to be a false positive detection; so as you can see there really is no rush.
