Avast Behaviour Shield goes mental eating ram like crazy (read: Chrome)

Hi.

Since the last update I have been experiencing occasional instances, where Avast Behaviour Shield goes absolutely mental starting using CPU time and RAM (like 2GB of RAM)- to that extent it makes my laptop (DELL XPS 13 2015) unusuable (due to lags). I have perfomed reinstal of AVAST FREE ANTIVIRUS only to see this mental behaviour repeat itself. I havent been able to indentify any trigger to it. But whenever the Shield goes mental, I am unable to load any sites in Chrome or Firefox and Skype disconnects.

Does anybody have a clue of what migh be going on here?

Thanks!

Hi Lopata,

I too have dell laptop (refer to my signatures below). DELL comes with a pre-installed McAfee LiveSafe and you should properly uninstall LiveSafe. Before you reinstall Avast. Uninstall Avast via add/remove and run the Avast uninstall utility. This tool will ask you if you want to run avast uninstall utility in safe mode, click on yes and this tool will run your computer in safe mode automatically and after that follow the instructions. After that run the MCPR (Mcafee Uninstall Utility) and click on run as administrator and follow the instructions. After that install Avast and follow the instructions. Once installed don’t restart your computer, avast will open up couple of Avast messages and finally it will open up the Avast GUI and it will finalize the installation of Avast and after that manually reboot your computer.

I am asking you this because, you might not have done this before.
