Avast blocking Calibre's content server

I updated my version of Avast home a few days ago. It is now running 2014.9.0.2008. Today when I went to open the Calibre application on my Windows XP laptop, Calibre threw off an error saying “Failed to start content server … Port 8080 not found on xxx.xxx.x.xxx”

I disabled Avast and Calibre and its content server start normally. So I went into Avast’s settings and added Calibre’s main installation directory to Avast’s File System Shield and Anti-Virus protection. But that didn’t work. I still get the error message.

So what changed in the new update of Avast to suddenly make Calibre’s content server not work? And what setting do I tweak to allow it?

I had the same problem. This fixed it for me.

  1. Go to “Settings” → “Troubleshooting” → “Redirect Settings” → “Web”.
  2. Remove 8080 from the “HTTP Port(s)” list.

This should allow the content server to function properly. Make SURE that you are running the latest version of avast! (2014.9.0.2008).

Gandalf, thank you very much for the quick reply. That worked perfectly!

Excellent!!! Glad to help . . . .
