Avast blocking emails on Windows Live Mail 2011

I’m running Windows Live Mail 2011 and have been blocked by Avast. My Virus Definition is Version 150414-0 and Program Version is 2015.10.2.2215. I’m receiving the following message: -

Unable to send or receive messages for the … account. The email server returned an error.

Server Error: 0x800CCC90
Server Response: -ERR Cannot establish SSL with POP server 61.9.168.249:995, SSL_connect error 5:10054
Server: ‘mail.bigpond.com
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC90
Protocol: POP3
Port: 110
Secure(SSL): No

Is their a fix for this problem, I’m a long term Avast user and a competent computer user but no expert so a fix explained in straight forward and simple terms would be appreciated as I’m sure others would also as this seems to be a common problem.

Thanks

See LEO40 reply on March 17th, his solution worked for me.

I posted the other day that Avast Free was suddenly blocking my Outlook 2007, and that it only worked when I disabled the Avast shields for 10 minutes.

I’ve since noticed that Mozilla Thunderbird was also blocked, but unlike with Outlook, when I disable the shields for 10 minutes, I get a message like your one.

I’m starting to think the solution is to switch to another Antivirus program.

Renato,

your problem is that you haven’t setup the email accounts correctly.

Same here. Almost exactly the same. Window7 and MS Outlook. Same error message.
When I start Windows7 in safe mode with networking it works ok.
