So I started noticing Yahoo sites are missing their images and I checked on what’s causing it. I tried just about everything you could think of until I tried turning off Avast and the Web Shield is blocking the images on Yahoo. I tried putting exclusions but it doesn’t work 100% because some of the images uses different addresses and it’s difficult to figure out each of their addresses so the easiest way to deal with it is to turn off Web Shield. It doesn’t matter which browser I use or what else I do. It is caused by Avast’s Web Shield.
Try this
www.avast.com > support > get help > FAQ … Search for https … See how to turn it off
Thanks man! It’s kinda odd though coz I checked on Yahoo’s certificate and it says it was approved by Avast Web Shield and yet they block all the images out.
So it worked! After turning off HTTPS scanning the images are showing up again. But I couldn’t help but wonder why does it only happen on Yahoo websites? Every other sites with HTTPS works just fine.
i have exact same issue. Ive emailed Avast and informed them. Hopfully they will fix this as it just started 3 days ago. doesnt seem right that ive gotta shut off web protection in order to render Yahoo home page images. very annoying
Lots of topics on that Yahoo.com HTTPS image issue in these forums - this has been acknowledged by avast and they are working on a fix.
I just wanted to post that Avast just pushed out an update which fixed the image loading problem for me. Thanks and keep up the good work! (Edit: I guess it’s not completely fixed, it loaded some images…but not all. So, still a problem.)
Add my system with Windows 7 to the list of computers that will not show images on Yahoo. As many of you have discovered, disabling Avast allows Yahoo to work ok.
you only have to turn off https scan
Same thing happens here, but only with Chrome and Firefox. Images load with Microsoft Edge.
^Ditto. Same thing as of 13th of Sept-2015. Edge works fine, Firefox needs https scanning disabled.
I removed chrome on my setup because, for some weird reason(s), it or something else that used it, kept creating cookies(chrome cookies) without me USING chrome at all.
I think this started after I installed Win10, but I’m not sure. (Chrome)… (no phantom cookies since then, 1 week)
Hi,
what version of Avast do you have?
The OPs original post pre-dates the fix.
Same here disabling https does not work.
The problems with ssl/tls scanning have been solved.
Make sure you have the latest avast version installed.
https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=179855.0
Installed the latest version from your link and the problem still persists
no pictures in yahoo.
yet when I uninstalle avast and run with no antivrus for a few minuts
yahoo is all good so it definatly has something to do with avast.
Same here disabling https does not work.
The block isn’t from Avast. What other blocking software are you using ???

Yes it is because when I uninstall avast my yahoo works perfect.
As you see from my screenshot, Yahoo works perfectly and I definitely have Avast installed on my system.
