Avast blocking key websites

For the last couple weeks I have been unable to load certain pages (e.g. Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.) while others work fine (e.g. Gmail). This occurs on any browser. I had just used Avast Cleanup Premium to clean up old files, so I thought that was the culprit. I spent 45 minutes online with Help, and they couldn’t figure out a thing.

Today, I disabled Avast Premium Security, and WHAM, everything worked. I turned it back on, and it was back to not working. Even the Avast community is blocked by Avast. The page just will not load. So, right now I have Avast Premium Security turned off so that I can access this page.

What gives, Avast? And how can I fix this?

First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.

Unfortunately there isn’t much detail to even make a suggestion. Stopping everything, doesn’t help to pin it down.
Adding the site domain to the Avast Exclusions may help, but could put you at risk if there is a valid security reason to block it.

What domain/s without making it an active link, why won’t it open, e.g. site just doesn’t open or you get an error message from the site or an Avast Alert ?

Are you also using a VPN (some sites actively try to block them or they can get in the way of them checking who you are) ?

Had similar issues for past 8-10 days. I tried the usual suspects in order, avast, nord vpn, then add blockers.

turning off avast does actually let all the blocked pages load but it is not avast which was the problem for me.

have you got any add blockers loaded that youve forgotten about? i have add blocker plus which is fine.

The culprit was an add on extention ad blocker ultimate. one by one turning off the the blocker for each page unlocked all the blocked pages including facebook, speed test, you tube and a handfull of other sites but this one and many other pages worked fine without turning the blocker off for each individual site so im totally baffled why it would block only a few sites.

This may not be the same issue but its trial and error to weasel out the culprit.

Thanks for responding. I am not using a VPN. I am trying to open LinkedIn. The page just fails to load. Blank screen and spinning wheel on tab. It stays like that for hours. All Chrome extensions are off. Happens in Edge, too. The second I turn off Avast, it works.

Thanks for responding. All Chrome extensions are off, including Ad Blocker Plus. The issue is in Edge, too. The second I turn off Avast, it works. I think that I am going to cancel/delete Avast and switch to a new security system.

Have you tried adding to the Avast Exclusions ?

Though I’m not a Linkedin member I can load the default https(://uk.)linkedin.()com/ page
I get the following warning:
LinkedIn and 3rd parties use essential and non-essential cookies to provide, secure, analyze and improve our Services, and to show you relevant ads (including professional and job ads) on and off LinkedIn. Learn more in our [Cookie Policy].

Select Accept to consent or Reject to decline non-essential cookies for this use. You can update your choices at any time in your [settings]

So there are other actors at play here. The fact that Avast’s Web Shield works as a man in the middle to protect against malicious sites/links

If you accept the risk you can do as suggested and try add the Linkedin domain to the Avast Exclusions. https(://uk.)linkedin.()com/* removing the () bracket I used to prevent the link being active in a topic.
