Avast blocking network attached storage device

New installation of Avast Internet Security.

I have a network attached storage device (called a Mirra). Up until my new installation of AIS, it worked fine. When I set the AIS firewall to “Home/Low Risk Zone,” the device works fine. When I move the setting to “Work/Medium Risk Zone,” however, the device goes offline. Clearly the protection offered by “Work/Medium Risk Zone” is causing the problem.

Can anyone tell me how to set AIS (in the Work/Medium Risk Zone) to allow the network attached storage device to function properly?

Update:

I think I may have solved the problem. Here’s what I did:

  1. Open Avast.
  2. Click Firewall tab.
  3. Click Firewall settings sub-tab.
  4. Click Expert Settings
  5. Click Packet Rules
  6. Click add. Name the rule. For action, click “allow.” For protocol, click “all.” For direction, click “In/Out.”
  7. Insert the IP address for the NAS.
  8. Click OK.

So far, so good!!
