I have used Avast for many years on my home PC in conjunction with Zonealarm firewall without any problems at all until about a week ago. The blue ‘A’ ball kept changing to have a no entry sign on it, meaning not active. I have tried updating only to be told that it was already up to date. I have tried uninstalling it and reinstalling the programme but still I have the same problem…it wont display any web pages or email while it is enabled. I receive the message, ‘unable to display the webpage’ on every web page i try to open. The minute I disable the antivirus I can then open all the web pages without a problem. Please can anybody tell me what the problem might be, ???
Into the firewall settings, the following programs should be allowed to connect:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe (avast! Web Scanner)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe (avast! e-Mail Scanner Service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\avast.setup (avast! Update executable). This is a temporary file that just appears when an update (check) is about to launch, and disappears again afterwards.
Sometimes ZA ‘loses’ the settings and the better will be delete the entries, boot, allow them again.
Hi everybody
looking for a solution to the same problem. Tried firewall settings as explained (also disabling it) but no solved: net surfing is allowed only disabling websv. Avast4.8.1296 Home. Any other suggestion?
