As subject, since this morning Avast web protection module blocks DNS queries from my pc but i can ping any ip as long as i use the ip address.
Simply typing nslookup www.google.com (or any other) returns dns query timeout.
Disabling Web protection from Avast interface solves the issue, i can navigate without any problem but it’s also dangerous.
Rebooting the pc makes it run again fine with protection turned on for like a couple of hours, after which the problem starts again.
I’ve used Avast free for more than 10 years and it never happened before.
Os: Win 10 Pro, Avast 23.9, both updated.
Any suggestion how to solve the issue?
Thankyou all.
same thing happened to me , started since yesterday (already twice): win11 22h2, Avast Premium 23.9.6082 (build 23.9.8494.796) , 231006-0.
1st time i rebooted , it solved issue , 2nd time i disabled/reenabled all shields issue went away.
Same here, have you got any solution from avast?
I’ve been tearing my hair out trying to figure out what’s causing my internet to randomly fully stop working until I reboot my PC. I even broke down and finally updated to Windows 11 only for the problem to persist.
Has there been any sort of acknowledgement of this issue from Avast at all? I don’t understand why it would fully shut off your ability to use the internet until you reboot or disable/re-enable web shield. It’s insane
I also have problems accessing some sites. Just disable avast shield mode for 10 minutes.
I’m having the same problem since the last program update (24.9.6130 (build 24.9.9452.875)). Common sites like imdb.com do not fully load most of the time.
The “fix” for me was to disable the Web Shield in Avast. No other changes. Hopefully this is a bug that they can fix in the next version.
Hi Miles,
I’m very sorry you are having issues with DNS.
Could you please help us with the investigation by providing some data?
Please enable debug logging (Menu > Settings > General > Troubleshooting > Enable debug logging)
Reproduce the issue (nslookup any domain or open via browser).
Create a support package (https://support.avast.com/en-eu/article/Submit-support-file) and post the ID here.
Thank you very much,
HK

Whilst that is the case, for you experiencing the problem following the suggestion by HK (Avast Team) would gather that information to help track the cause.
