Hello, this morning I formatted my PC and restored it to its factory state, after which I installed, among others, some software that I thought could help me protect it: avast and malware bytes. However, after logging into my Amazon account, Avast warns me with a pop up that it has blocked a threat, specifically with the accusation of attempted phishing, by MBAMservice.exe present in the Malware Bytes folder. It recognizes from this file an attempted access to the ocsp2 dot globalsign dot com site and therefore interrupts the connection.
Is this a false positive? How can I be sure that the file is safe? Do you think there was something wrong with the website itself (I used duckduckgo to go to Amazon instead of typing the web address properly, but I think the website was legit)?
I used Google translate, just so you know. If there is anything else you need to know feel free to ask, keep in mind Iâm not an expert. Thank you for your help and have a nice day.
A screenshot of the Avast Alert window with the See details option selected would be helpful in what information to give.
You can use MBAM as an on-demand scanner - if it is active then the two could conflict. This is like two dogs fighting over one bone, they fight for control. It also isnât unusual for one to find the others actions suspicious.
Here you are, thanks for your help! Itâs in Italian but my earlier post explained the situation clearly enough, I think. I didnât run malware bytes that evening, but thereâs the possibility that it was running in the background, I guess
If you start Malwarebytes turn off the active shields when running alongside Avast.
Even then Malwarebytes will be active in the background and you will see a âMâ icon on Right of your system tray. Click that icon and select option to turn off Malwarebytes.
I tried, first with malware bytes off and then once more after turning it on, but avast did not activate again. Donât really know whatâs happening, is it a good sign? Honestly I donât remember activating malware bytes when avast detected the issue, but who knows.
As long as you are not getting alerts from Avast you should be OK.
It is usually OK to have Malwarebytes installed alongside Avast to allow âsecond opinionâ on-demand scans if needed, but important that Malwarebytes real-time shields components are disabled.
Also if you do start Malwarebytes, even to run a scan, when finished turn it off via the system tray icon. That tray icon should then dissapear.
