Avast boot-time scan freezes, halts at identification of Somoto-P [PUP]

Hi
I am a first-time user of Avast.
After a regular scan, Avast advised I follow up with a boot-time scan.
The boot-time scan halted at a choice of options 1-9 (I think) from the keyboard.
I chose 1 (fix automatically) on my wireless keyboard but nothing happened.
I waited. I unplugged and plugged back in the keyboard. Pressed 1 again.
Nothing.
Eventually, I switched off and then had to restart the computer in its most recent configuration.
The boot scan identified the following before it froze:
Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\nsu72.tmp … by Win.32: Somoto-P [PUP}
Recently my computer died on me - permanently - twice and I am trying to revive it and make it clean.
Your advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Andy
