Avast Broken?

Hi all, after having security doubts due to the widespread loss of internet problem,I attempted to check various parts of my system,I noticed that the last scan date on the Avast startup was Jun17 although I have done several scans since that date.Updates have been Ok,it shows the current version. Then my tray icons disappeared, and upon checking Start/run/services.msc I see that all Avast services are disabled.I did a rootkit scan and it shows hidden items as below
avast! Antirootkit, version 0.9.6

Am running XP Media CenterSP2

google search for {4F8561EA-489E-25F2-CD1C-9A6D2753D252} gives us nothing… it would be useful to run a HiJackThis scan to look for the nasties causing this…

Hi,have attached file, hope this is OK

i can’t see anything suspicious there ???

Where else can I go for help to get my paid for anti virus to work…tray icons are back,i am trying to attach the Avast ini file in case it sheds any light

What is suspicious is that there is no mention of anything that should be there if avast was installed on this system.

If this user has an avast file saying that the last avast scan was June 17 then it appears that some part of the avast install is present on the system. So, either the user has completely disabled avast startup or something else has.

All I can think of immediately is a complete uninstall and re-install of avast. If you choose to follow this suggestion then once you have done the re-install please let us know how the hijackthis log looks at that point.

By the way, can you please let us know the version of avast that appears to be installed on your system.

Hi,thanks for replying…I have Avast Pro v4.8.12.01.If I uninstall can I use the original installer file to reinstall?i have attached the error log as well, hope it helps

Hopefully the avast folks may have some better insight on the error log than I do.

As to the reinstall the original file should be fine - some might suggest s re-download but avast checks the integrity of its install files.
