Avast Browser Update Issues

Every time I reboot my computer I get a message that Avast couldn’t update to the latest version and requests that I re download and reinstall. I have done this numerous times and nothing changes. Here is the error issue that shows in the About tab.

An error occurred while checking for updates: Update check failed to start (error code 1: 0X80004005 – system level).

I had the same problem. I had resigned myself to uninstalling Avast Secure Browser and reinstalling fresh. When I went to Windows Control Panel/Programs and Features and clicked on Uninstall for the browser I was given 3 choices ‘Cancel’, ‘Uninstall’ or ‘Repair’. I tried ‘Repair’ and it fixed the issue.

  1. restart the Browser
  2. go to the Settings menu, then About page
  3. Browser will start checking for an update & will download and install it
  4. Restart the browser
