Avast Bug

After finally updating to the new program version (I waited due to hearing about bugs with games and Discord) I’ve been seeing a lot more of a bug I only normally saw once every twenty or so restarts. The bug is apparently a UI glitch that has existed for a few years now. When first logging in after everything has loaded (it used to be once every twenty or so launches) Avast will display the yellow warning triangle. When I load up the UI to see what it’s saying the problem is it says the firewall is offline. I checked, Firewall isn’t offline. Now my issue isn’t with the bug, clicking the button to turn the Firewall on or shutting off all shields and turning them on clears the warning but I’m more concerned that Avast isn’t actually protecting my computer when this glitch is happening.

Before you ask, yes I have done a repair and I’ve also uninstalled and reinstalled the firewall module and it worked for a single restart. Avast appears to have gone back to showing the error at launch. If you need more info, I’ll happily provide it.

Perform a clean installation of the latest version with the off-line installer.

How do you do a clean installation? Uninstall first or is there an option in the installer?

Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)

Internet Security. I’m not wanting to uninstall if it’s just a simple UI glitch, I’m more just wondering if this is a small bug or if Avast isn’t doing it’s job when this is happening. Because this wasn’t the first time I’ve seen something like this.

Just in case…

  1. Download Avast Internet Security: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup_offline.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.
