Avast! cannot connect for updates

Hi: I’ve been using avg antivirus for some time now, but I’ve recently installed Avast!, and now when I want to update, I get the message that it cannot connect! :cry: Any ideas??
I’m using XP pro with recently installed service pack and connecting to the internet via broadband. I’ve tried switching off the windows firewall, but still get the can’t connect message gary

Can you connect other sites?
Can you manually update avast?
Don’t you use any other firewall besides the internal Windows XP one?

Can you check the proxy settings?
Left click the avast icon > Settings
Update (Basic) > Details > Proxy

Try the ‘non-automatic’ settings, i.e., no proxies at all.

In reply, yes I can connect to other sites no problem. It’s only Avast that cannot connect.
I can’t connect manually either.
I’ve also tried changing prox settings from autodetect to no proxy. Still no joy.
Also yes, I’m only using windows firewall (was using zonealarm, but disabled that)

Disabled or removed? If disabled, remove it and try again.

I’ve uninstalled zonealarm and everything works fine now. ;D

I’m pretty sure that if you now install ZA again, it wil keep working. This is known glitch with ZA.
