Avast can't find a virus !

I performed a boot - time scan of all my disks but avast home edition still did not find anything
I am sure I have a virus (at least one) because whenever i connect to the internet (even now) it keeps sending e-mails (spam) wich avast sees but dose not stop all of them.
Please help , i don’t want to format my computer !

Try some online scans. (Disable avast! while scanning.)

F-Secure
BitDefender
Panda
Trend Micro Housecall

I am currently scanning with Panda , it found 30 files infected already …
Thanks , but … is avast going to do nothing about this ? am I going to have to give it up for Panda ?

my bad looks like panda was not able to detect it either , it detected 30 TrackingCookies
so … looks like the only way is to format … hmmm :((

rayden2909, after you run on-line scanning like Frank suggested, it will be my time to suggest:

  1. Disable System Restore and reenable it after step 3.
  2. Clean your temporary files.
  3. Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on.
  4. Use SUPERantispyware and/or Spyware Terminator to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete than.
  5. Test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest avast! antirootkit or Trend Micro RootkitBuster.
  6. Make a HijackThis log to post here or, better, submit the RunScanner log to to on-line analysis.
  7. Immunize your system with SpywareBlaster or Windows Advanced Care.
  8. Check if you have insecure applications with Secunia Software Inspector.

No need to reformat.

Try all the online scans.

Then post a HijackThis! log as per the link in Tech’s post if you’re still having the same problem.

Don’t worry about tracking cookies.

Welcome to the forums, rayden2909.

As Franks says above, there is no need to format. Reformating is the last thing to be done when nothing else helps. There are many possibilities yet to try such as those suggested in the posts above. In more than 10 years of using PC’s, I have never had to reformate a hard drive. There are too many other resources to cure the problem. Please help us help you by following the suggestions above.
