Hi, I am trying to perform a system restore from a few hours ago, and also one from a few days ago but Avast seems to be stopping it from being successful. (See Image)
Fully Uninstalling Avast and rebooting and trying to do the system restore.
Using Avastclear.exe to remove any other remaining files there might be
Booting into safe mode and trying to perform the system restore from there
All of these methods haven’t worked and it seems like the problem is located in the system restore that was created when Avast was running and now when I try to perform the restore, the avast specific files cannot be extracted.
Is there a work around or has anyone encountered this problem before.
Bleating about how System Restore is old and unreliable and you should be using backup mirroring software instead is simply not an acceptable response to matters like this. So other posters please do not do that.
Microsoft updates and a host of other programs put in restore points before installing - it is part of the MS OS safety nets. Any software that interferes with them is what is at fault and AVAST has done just that in the past and apparently is now doing it again.
Trying to weasel out of it by saying that restore points can be used to introduce or re-install malware so your system is more secure if you’re prevented from using System Restore is a dubious justification.
Older versions of AVAST have no problems with the self-defence module being activated and System Restore works perfectly without needing to go into Safe Mode or anything like that. So, assuming it is the same issue, I suspect this problem returning with the latest(?) AVAST version is accidental and needs to be fixed.
Ironically total uninstall of everything AVAST may work but if it is just the self-defence module issue again the OP has had a great deal of his time wasted, extra work and unnecessary worry as a result.
