Avast causing 'This page cannot be displayed' messages on http websites.

We are having an issue with Avast. We know this issue happens on Windows 7 and XP. The problem that happens is when you go onto the Internet using any web browser, you get a ‘this page cannot be displayed’. In other words the browser can’t load any pages. Funny thing is it does work with https (secure) websites just fine. Also it only happens on some computers. Rebooting the computer, or disabling and re-enabling avast shields control fixes the issue but only temporarily. Does anyone have any thoughts to this problem? Thank you.

There was a change to the web shield in v9.0.2011… v9.0.2012 (now in BETA has that fix included in it and will be released when ready)

The only change was with systems of Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1

Windows XP web shield driver was not changed…

Here is the fix…

I have this problem with Windows XP. Some websites will not load and others load extremely slow with web shields enabled. I gave up and uninstalled Avast. Is there a fix for Windows XP.

Alikhan, actually we are using the Enterprise version of Avast currently version 8.0.1490. Is the problem you describe relevant to our version as well? Thanks.

It possibly could work but the business version could differ.

It wouldn’t hard to give it a try since all you have to do is remove the 2 lines to undo it.

I personally would recommend you to create a thread there about the issues.
