Some programs that Avast lists as slowing down my computer aren’t even running. Most notable is Microsoft Office which came per-installed sans a license rendering it useless, and OneDrive which I don’t use. Though I stopped every service, scheduled task and/or startup item (in the Task Manager and “Startup” folder) pertaining to these programs Avast still claims they’re slowing down my computer. (Attached are illustrations.)
If your happy with what you have running or not, I would ignore those entries.
I don’t know the depth that Avast looks to ascertain how a program is slowing your system or if it just sees what is installed and its potential to slow it.
Personally I take ownership of my system and I make the decisions on what is installed and what is allowed to run. I don’t even have the free cleanup component installed, yet I get popups related to cleanup, basically there ads in the hope I might purchase the product.
The information may well be true/correct if it were running. But I have also seen other toaster popups and UI ads suggesting an Avast product, here in the forums and my systems that are poor/lacking detail. That however would require more digging and I don’t know how well that would go down.
A classic one seen on the forums is for the Avast VPN ‘your activity can be seen’, etc. when the user is already using another VPN.
@ ehmen
Yes, but it isn’t the same, hence posting in the Avast Cleanup (former GrimeFighter) product forum wouldn’t answer the issues here.
Lets say that you actually had the Avast Cleanup (former GrimeFighter) paid product, I believe you would have different options available in the paid product.
But of course the Cleanup scanning ability is automatically bundled with the basic Free Avast product as it is included as a part of the default install settings.
Use Custom Install and deselect what you don’t want/need.
Yup, for ehmen, as he can run the truncated version of the program, he’d need to deselect it in Custom Protection to remove the actual ability to run it and reboot. Ads are still going to appear regardless, I agree. Topic is about inaccurate results which is the point.
Just disregards the request for the upgrade or purchase of additional unwanted software.
Your protection hasn’t decreased and that’s the prime reason for using Avast.
