Avast Cleanup (what the **** have I paid for?)

I have just paid £20 for Avast Cleanup as it said it would optimize my PC. Having bought the package I clicked on check for performance issues and It shows the issues. However when I click on optimize my PC Avast tries to make me spend another £20 odd pounds year on an “optimization” package. So what the hell have I just spent £20 for? To tell me I have issues to which i have to pay more to get fixed.?

Hi MatteoB

Paying twice is not necesarry.

When you bought Cleanup, an activation code should have been sent to you by email.
Have you tried to enter that activation code manually : https://www.avast.com/en-eu/faq.php?article=AVKB211#idt_220

Hey Rednose I did add the code yes and things seem to be working now. Weirdly it took about half an hour to activate. Sorry for my tone but was kind of surprised at seeming to have to pay twice as Avast has always been pretty transparent. Cheers for the reply

Good to know it is working now

Normally Cleanup should be activated immediately when you buy it from within the Avast User Interface.
So I understand you were surprised/irritated when it didn’t.

I’d be interested in hearing what “cleanup” actually does. Haven’t heard a single specific from any user
as to what happened on their PC.

HDW did test it in an early beta (it was free to test back then).
The thread is in German, but you might be intersted in the screenshots anyway.
