Hello all. So I just installed a new HDD for backing up my data. When I first installed it and flipped my computer on, the drivers must not have installed because I could not see the drive in Computer Management. So I restarted, and everything worked then. While I formated it I noticed Avast shields were off except for the Firewall. I click to enable all shields and nothing happens. I go to check my subscription and all the data that usually shows up (like license and owner) is not shown; however it does say it’s registered. I go to update the program and Avast says that “Unknown, connection not established” I go to log into my account from the GUI and it says “an unexpected error occurred on the server, we are working on the solution”. Before I restarted it, in the Services tab of Task Manager, Avast Antivirus was stopped, Windows would not let me start it denying me access. After restarting my computer, Avast Antivirus and Firewall are Running, but AvastVboxSvc is stopped and again Windows will not let me start it. So I suspect the reason nothing is on is because Avast can’t see that it’s registered. I’ve restarted my computer, I’ve uninstalled the drive all to no avail. I’ve tried booting into safe mode to no avail either. Google shows nothing good, it’s all just people who have more than one A/V on their system. But I’ve only ever had Avast and nothing else (so we can rule that out right away). I’m on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. And I have paid for the Internet Security License. All was working just fine a few days ago, even a few weeks back when I renewed my subscription.
I’ve never had this issue before, and nothing has changed on my computer since 2 years ago, except for me starting to use the Avast Web Browser recently; and the new HDD.
Repair Avast:
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB204
If Repair doesn’t fix the problem, try the following:
Clean Install of Avast: https://goo.gl/4Ptzkf
The program version is 12.1.2272 (build 12.1.3076.6)
bob3160, I tried your suggestion to no avail. However the “repair” option does not exist on it’s own, you must select Avast and then select “change” then the Avast GUI pops up allowing you to “fix” the installation.
bob, so far your uninstall and reinstall suggestion is working. I will give it a few more days and see what happens.
Now I have another issue, everytime I logoff and log back in, or restart, the Avast icon resets itself to “show icon and notifications” in the Windows Taskbar settings. I want it to “only show notifications” but like I said, it keeps reseting itself. Is there a fix for this? Thanks.
