Avast Community Participation Guidelines

The Avast Community is provided by Gen Digital Inc. together with its affiliates (collectively, “Gen”, “we”, “us”, and “our”) as a service to its customers (“you” or “your”), to help them exchange ideas, tips, information, and techniques related to our products and services. The Community Participation Guidelines are here so that you know what is expected of you and what you can expect from other participants when using the boards, blogs, and forums that make up the Community. By participating you agree to comply with these Community Participation Guidelines (“Community Guidelines”) as well as the Community Terms and Conditions of Use (“Community Terms”).

- Stay on topic -
For everyone’s benefit please stay on topic. The boards, blogs and forums are provided for the specific purpose of making it possible for participants to exchange information and help each other in using our products and services. Please refrain from discussing personal matters, abusing any company, product or service, or, in general, from posting in a manner unrelated to the discussion of issues concerning our products and services.
Periodically review materials that you have previously posted to ensure that the information is still accurate. This step is required even though the system will also automatically prune old posts as needed to enable the highest level of speed and responsiveness from our servers.

- Keep it courteous -
Everyone wants to have a positive experience while visiting the Community, and your opinions are always welcome – but please make sure that you are not detracting from any other participant’s experience. Posting anything unlawful, libelous, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, indecent, lewd, harassing, threatening, harmful, invasive of privacy or publicity rights, abusive, inflammatory, ethnically, racially, religiously or sexually offensive, or otherwise objectionable or injurious to third parties through the Avast Community boards, blogs or forums, or through the Personal Message system, is prohibited and such content may be removed by our moderators.
Please remember that other participants can’t see your facial expressions or hear the tone of your voice. It’s easy for comments intended as harmless jokes to be mistaken for harsh, intentional criticism. While we strongly encourage open debates/discussions, we want to make sure that they take place in a climate of mutual respect.

- Protect your privacy -
Our General Privacy Policy applies to the Community. Please do not post any personal data, whether your own or from another person or entity. Posting your own phone number, address and any other personal data is prohibited. Also, if any participant asks you for personal data, such as an account number, address, password or credit card number, do not provide it.

- Keep it spam-free -
The Community is not intended for the promotion of third-party services, products, websites, or organizations. Please do not post or send links to third-party sites if they are not relevant to the topics being discussed. Please do not post third-party logos, and refrain from posting content that would constitute advertising, junk email, spam, chain letters, or any other form of unauthorized solicitation, or it may be removed by our moderators.

- Keep it legal -
It is unacceptable to post any material (i) that would infringe on any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright, or other proprietary rights of any party, (ii) that contains software viruses or any other computer code or files that are designed to disrupt, damage, or limit the functioning of any software or hardware, or (iii) that is deemed to be illegal by any local, state, federal, or international law.

- Be careful -
Most people are happy to help out on the boards, blogs and forums, but remember that their advice is theirs only and that you are responsible for deciding whether or not to follow it. If the advice given by a participant sounds wrong to you, do not try it. Please also remember that we do not specifically monitor, ensure, or confirm the accuracy of, or provide input or support for, information posted by other participants.

- Personal Message policy -
The Personal Message (PM) tool is available for any participant to contact any other participant or the moderator within the Community. Any PM is a personal correspondence between you and the participant to whom it is sent. Before posting any PM correspondence in a public board you must ask and receive permission to do so from the other participant. This policy also applies to email and others forms of communication.

- Gen retains the right to remove content and limit participants’ access –
We do not generally edit or monitor content posted by participants. However, we retain the right to remove material that, in our sole judgment, does not comply with these Community Guidelines or the Community Terms, or that is otherwise inappropriate for the Community, harmful, objectionable, or inaccurate; and to limit participants’ access to the Community if this type of material is posted. We are not responsible for any failure or delay in removing such material.
The Community is not a legal venue, and as such any discussion of litigation (past, present or future) shall not be allowed. We retain the right to remove this material and to limit participants’ access to the Community if this type of material is posted.
The Community moderators may take any action they deem necessary in their own judgment to support the Community Guidelines and the Community Terms. Such actions may include editing or deleting material and banning participants.

- Community Terms -
All participation in the Community is subject to the Community Terms. Please remember that participants like you are providing most of the material in the Community. Such third-party content is the sole responsibility of the person originating the material. We do not control and are not responsible for this third-party material.
In case of discrepancy between the Community Guidelines and the Community Terms, the Community Terms will prevail.
