AVAST DETECTING VIRUS

AVAST KEEPS DETECTING A VIRUS ON MY COMPUTER. EVERY TIME I HAVE DELETED IT . SOMETIMES WHEN I SCAN (THOROUGH) NOTHINGS SHOWS UP AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I GET THE ALARM. THE PATH NAME IS DIFFERENT EVERY TIME. IT IS NEVER THE SAME. ALL OF THEM ARE SHOWING UP TROJAN-GEN SOMEWHERE ALONG THOSE LINES. I HAVE SCANNED WITH THE CLEANER WHICH PICKED UP NOTHING AND ALSO I HAVE SPYHUNTER THAT REMOVED ALOT OF OTHER STUFF BUT NOTHING ALONG THE LINES OF TROJAN-GEN. HOW DO I DETERMINE THE TYPE OF VIRUS I HAVE AND I HAVEN’T BEEN ABLE TO FIND AN UNDERSTANDABLE SOLUTION HERE.

Hi,

  1. writing in CAPITALS is seen as SHOUTING here and is considered impolite

  2. have you entered
    trojan-gen
into the board-search above ? What don’t you understand there ?

  3. have you run spybot, ad-aware and cwshredder
and Trend, RAV & KAV (see below) to get a more specific name ?
(you need to temporarily disable AV-Resident Shield/Monitor/Guard to be able to scan the file with other programs)

  4. give some examples of the path/folder/filenames of the infected files ?
What WIN do you have ?
    are all Windowsupdates applied ?

I was able to remove Trojan Gen with Avast. But, if you have the same problem as I have, you might be stuck with a tricky little thing that keeps resetting your IE home page. Reboot your computer in safe mode then run these scanners, maybe they’ll find something Avast can’t.

I am sorry that you think I am shouting, but it is my god given right to do what I please. I don’t think I am the one being impolite at all. The only response you can give to anyone is to type TROJAN-GEN in the search bar which does not pull any usefull information at all. By the way… I have resolved the probelm and come to find that AVAST detected an adware problem and not a virus, which to me is misleading. I ran Panda Active Scan and three different virus programs and none of them found viruses. It seems I am not the only one in this forum with the problem. FYI - I am a novice computer user and think that the information you have provided by telling people to refer to a search bar is more offensive than typing in CAPS. :stuck_out_tongue:

Technically in a forum, typing in caps is in fact being rude. The search bar thing was advice given by a user, you can take it, or you can’t, your choice really.
