I just updated my Avast Premium Security on April 10, 2025. It has disabled Windows Defender scanning options. I.e. disabled quick scan and full scan on Defender. What can I do? I would like to be able to use Defender too. The programs do not find the same viruses. Kind regards, Hjalti
First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.
Avast doesn’t directly disable Windows Defender, When you install another Antivirus, Windows disabled the Defender active protection to prevent a conflict between two active antivirus programs. Though this is strange since you already had Avast installed and this was an update to it.
You can however retain the on-demand function of Windows Defender (I don’t know why that stopped) to allow periodic on-demand scans.
Check the Windows Security - Virus and Threat Protection function, you should be able to turn that on.
