My MSN has got an infection that cause MSN to send an infected file to all persons in my MSN address book that is on line.
The message they get is varying, but always has an attached ZIP file this is an example of the message “look at this picture from hotornot.com”
I’ve scanned and boot scanned the system with avast, have scanned with ad-watch, spybotsd and rootkitbuster without finding anything - and the dammed thing is still there ???
Download and run this clean up utility. You can use it regularly. When it’s first run, it is in demo mode to show you what it will remove. Review it and then rerun in real mode. It is configurable.
Please download MsnCleaner.zip and save to you Desktop. (in addition to removing infected files, it will remove certain restrictions on your system often disabled by malware.)
Extract (unzip) the file to your desktop, but DO NOT use it yet.
Reboot your computer in “Safe Mode” using the F8. To do this restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A boot menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in “Safe Mode”.
Double-click MsnCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Click the [/b]“Analyze”[/b] button.
A report will be created after the scan and will be saved to C:\MsnCleaner.txt.
If it finds an infection, click the “Deleted” button.
Reboot normally and post the contents of MsnCleaner.txt in your next reply.
Please download Deckard’s System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
[*]Close all other windows before proceeding.
[*]Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
[*]When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt – please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.
