I usually run an antivirus scan and run Premier clean up on Saturdays. This past Saturday, however, I couldn’t. The reason is that neither my anti-virus nor premier clean up would open. I tried everything I know, including redownloading and reinstalling them. Still nothing.
What’s wrong and how do I fix it?

Do Repair Avast:
- Avast GUI → Settings → Troubleshooting
- Click on ‘REPAIR APP’.
- Follow instructions.
- Reboot.
If you can’t open the GUI , try the Windows uninstall option and chose repair there.
When you reinstalled, did you run avastclear? https://www.avast.com/en-gb/uninstall-utility It might help, although I don’t know what is causing your problem.
I apologize. I am technologically illiterate. WHat is a GUI?
GUI = Graphical User Interface
So it refers to opening the Avast User Interface > Settings > Troubleshooting, etc.
That is my problem, the interface won’t open.
Did you try a Repair via the Control Panel > Programs, Uninstall a program (select Avast Antivirus) then use the Repair option as suggested in Reply #1 ?
Yes I did follow the instructions.
The Repair should have given an indication it had completed, did it ?
Whilst not normally required I would always recommend a restart after the Repair.
If you did the above then a clean reinstall would be the next option:

Before you start anything get your tools together so you have all you need first, download avastclear.exe and save it then download your Avast Antivirus Program, links here (use the off-line installation file, rather than the online version) https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=229461.0.
Now Uninstall your version of avast, reboot.
Using the files you downloaded and saved:
Run the avastclear.exe file, reboot.
Now reinstall your program, reboot.

I followed your instructions, and I must have done it correctly because the free antivirus opens now. But I have a license for the clean up…how do I get that to open?
So I guess I put those instruction together correctly.
