Avast doesn't start at startup

I have recently noticed that when I restart my pc, or sometimes curious to see if it is running, I can’t see the program running in the task bar as it usually used to. If I double click on its icon on my desktop then it will show its icon in the task bar again. Also I can not find this program among those start up programs when I look in the msconfig. After opening the program I can see that the database has been updated. I have tried to repair it but it hasn’t helped. Is this a normal behavior for this program with this version, as I have been using this program for a long time and haven’t seen it behave like this.

Avast version 8.0.1489

have you tried avast repair?

Yes I have tried to repair it but it hasn’t helped. This problem doesn’t happen every time I restart, but its annoying to know that it happens. Just restarted my laptop and this time is showing in the task bar.

What version of Windows are you using?

~!Donovan

I am using Windows 7 home premium, with everything updated including the installed softwares.

  • Which avast!..?? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
  • OS…?? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP…?)
  • Other security related software installed…??
  • Which AV did you use before avast!..??

I am using Avast free version
Windows 7 home premium SP1 full updated
Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, regularly run them
I did a fresh windows install on this laptop for about 2 months ago, never run more than 1 antivirus.
No problem what with Windows or any devices.

Check to see if you have Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.30729.6161 installed?

@mchain,
yes I have that Mircosoft vistual C++ file you mentioned on my laptop, is it the one causing the problem?

  1. Download avast! Free Antivirus: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed avast! versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

No, if it was missing or corrupted, you would have issues.
